Man takes own life in Akwa Ibom ahead of father’s burial
A 46-year old man, Aniekan Peter Sunday has allegedly commit suicide in his uncompleted building in Otomo Community in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Monday.
Although, the exact reason, the deceased took his own life is yet to be ascertained as at press time as some villagers who spoke about the unfortunate incident said they were even shocked by the tragic incident.
However, it was gathered that the deceased, was the only surviving son, of his late father who is due for burial next Friday.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ika local government, Musa Rilwanu who visited the scene of the suicide after the incident also was amazed at the episode.
Following the incident, the village head of the community, Chief Sunday Thomas Mbaba expressed grief at the tragedy, describing it as ‘barbaric and shocking.’
“Early this morning, a youth from this community, Philip came to my compound and informed me of the said barbaric act, so I immediately went to the police station to inform the DPO about the unfortunate incident,” the village head said.
In addition, a native of the village also mentioned that the deceased had packed into his uncompleted building two weeks ago.
Adding that it was indeed sad that the deceased died leaving his poor aged mother and relatives.
On the contrary however, the State police spokesman, Odiko MacDon, DSP, said concerning the incident that he was not aware of the incident as it had not yet been reported to State Police headquarters.
“I have not been informed about the incident but it is very sad and unfortunate if it is true that the man took his life,” MacDon said, promising that the police will investigate the matter.
