Man lands in court for stealing gallons of groundnut oil

A 31-year-old man, Eteng Arikpo, was arraigned in Karu Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Friday over an alleged theft allegation 10 gallons of groundnut oil which is reportedly valued at N130,000.

The accused (Arikpo), a resident of Karu, was brought before the court on a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

The Police Prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, told the court that the complainant, Odoh Sunday, of Karu market, Abuja, reported the case at Karu Police Station on June 11 at 10. 00 p.m.

Osuji noted that the accused allegedly did not keep the agreement between him and the complainant on the sale of the commodity.

He noted that the complainant, he gave the gallons of groundnut oil to the accused and he agreed to pay back in three days after he must have sold the commodity which he collected on credit, he said.

He added that Arikpo, after selling the items, converted the money to his personal use and disappeared until he was arrested by the police.

The accused, however, denied the charge and was admitted to a bail of N200, 000 with one surety.

The offences contravened Sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Linda Ibegu, adjourned the case until July 31 for hearing.
